José Francisco París Ángel completed his studies in Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Málaga, where he also received his PhD. In 2017 he is consolidated as Full Professor in the area of Teoría de la Señal y Comunicaciones by the University of Malaga. His main lines of research are both mobile communications and signal processing.

He appears in the list of World's Top 2% Scientists elaborated by Stanford University for his entire career (October 2023). During 5 months of 2005 he carried out a research stay at Stanford University with Professor Andrea Goldsmith.

He is inventor of the Kappa-Mu shadowed fading model receiving for it the IEEE 2016 Neal Shepherd Memorial Best Propagation Paper Award. He is co-inventor of the Málaga-M model of atmospheric optical scintillation, the FTR fading model. He found an exact and closed formula for the Hoyt distribution function used in communications and other fields; this was an open problem decades ago. Such a formula is used, for example, in the statistical module of the commercial software MATHEMATICA. All the contributions have been supported by the scientific community with a large number of citations.
