In 1996, he worked at INITEC (Empresa Nacional de Ingeniería y Tecnología), Madrid, in the Intrumentation and control department, in the design of thermal power stations. In 1997, he worked at Alcatel España, R&D division, in the Wireless Local Loop Systems department, in the hardware design of products based on DECT technology. In november 1997, he joined the Ingeniería de Comunicaciones department, Universidad de Málaga, where he is an Associate Professor. He served as Head of Department between 2012 and 2015.

His research is focused on signal processing for communication systems and, in particular, on channel modeling and the design of transmission techniques for several applications like: power line communications, underwater acoustic communications and wireless systems. He has lectured at bachelor and master degrees in subjects like: Digital and analogue communications, optical communication systems, Circuits and subsystems for communications, etc. He has participated in several educational innovation projects.
